A gathering of First Ladies will always produce amazing results (photo thewip.com)
So ever since we ran that story on Chantal Biya, I’ve sorta been obsessing about doing a gallery on First Ladies from different countries. Unfortunately I couldn’t get really good pictures of Maryam Babangida (it is general knowledge that she has been our most fashionable First Lady).
Let’s begin with the hairdo that started all this excitement!
That the Pope did not keel over at the sight of this big hair is evident that he is more liberal than we think (photo tampabay.com)
Is Chantal giving Bruni the once-over? Sacre-bleu! she must be thinking, where is the bouf, and the pouf,? Such flat 'air! (Obviously read this in a French accent) (photo blogspot.com)
That's better! We do like it when Chantal is smiling - especially with Paris Hilton preening beside her (photo lexpressplus.com)
Next on the list is one of my personal faves – Carla Bruni; the woman is a rock star!
This is from before she became Mrs. Sarkozy (photo wordpress.com)
Fast forward to a few rock 'n' roll relationships later... (photo wordpress.com)
... and she's the First Lady of France! (photo fash-eccentric.com)
PS. Carla Bruni is an accomplished musician and rumour has it she’s working on her fourth studio album with Lenny Kravitz (So there, critics!)
Next stop…Agrabah! Well, not really… Far from it, actually. It’s Iceland. And the Icelandic queen First Lady is a most accomplished woman – Check out her stats:
In 2003 when Dorrit Moussaieff married Olafur Ragnar Grimsson ( his second wife) she became First Lady. Before then, she was already a a jewelry designer, editor, businesswoman, and socialite (thus says Wikipedia).
She is a contributing editor to British society magazine Tatler.
Moussaieff was in third place on the Harper’s Magazine List of the Most Connected People in Britain. A local magazine in Reykjavik chose her as one of the best-dressed women in Iceland. Moussaieff was also named Woman of 2006 by the popular Icelandic glossy magazine Nýtt Líf.
Apart from all these glamorous exploits, she is also an astute businesswoman and works with disabled children. Ok, enough gist. Here she is:
Dorrit Mousasaieff is probably the most influential Jew in Icelandic history. She is Israeli born, British-Icelandic (photo tumblr.com)

Our next FL is also a jewellery designer: which frankly, came as a bit of a surprise. I thought she might want her own line of shoes. we are of course talking about Imelda Marcus, former first lady of the Philippines. This woman owned thousands of shoes! Yep, you read correct…
Sadly while her late husband was Prez their country men were living in penury. In her defense, some of the shoes were complimentary.., or so they say… What’s with this rambling?
Welcome, to the world's largest shoe closet (photo mynosebleed.com)
Before Fabulosity, was Imeldific (photo wordpress.com)
An Imeldific, gold-plated sitting room...only the best for a photo shoot! (photo bloomberg.com)
Glamour runs in the family - Imelda's designer daughter and model grandson (with Grandmama, of course) (photo wmagazine-com)
It’s about time we got to that other fashionable First Lady…no, not that one, her! –
In case you don't recognise her, that's Jackie O, when she was JFK's First Lady (photo wordpress)
She popularized both the pillbox hat... (photo charlottemoss.com)
... and this now-iconic, oft-imitated look (photo jfklibrary-org)
You've heard of Jackie O. glasses? Well, here sit the originals! (photo jackiek-blogspot.jpg)
It’s undeniable that parallels have been drawn between Jackie Kennedy Onassis (above) and Michelle Obama.
I personally detest that outfit but hey, seemed to be big hit with Obama-watchers (photo nydailynews-com.jpg)
Very First Lady, inspired by Jackie Kennedy perhaps? (photo abcnews.com)
The many looks of Mrs. Obama (photo fashiontribes.typepad.com)
My absolute favourite Michelle Obama picture (for now) (photo tinypic.com)
I would be remiss if I did not include the following:
Horribly tiny photo really, but it's obvious that Mrs. Babangida has a certain something (and it's not just her smile) (photo ibrahimbabangida.com)
How could I leave out Queen Rania of Jordan. Although she resembles a Bollywood version of Brooke Shields, she's not just a pretty face - Google her. (photo http://www.p4peace.com)
I really put this photo because of the glasses, but Queen Inkhosikati LaMbikiza of Swaziland has a quite interesting family situation. Google again! (photo daylife.com)
