LOGO-GOLD with SHADING

Hennessy Artistry 2009 (which is in its third year running in Nigeria) kicked off at the Saipan Bar & Restaurant, Victoria Island on last Thursday night, September 10. The bar was packed with guests fairly filling the venue with smoke and enjoying a largess of Hennessy’s Apple & Ginger.

Speaking to X2 reporter before the ‘kickoff’ one of the contestants, Blaise, laid away supposition that she might be tense at the thought of competing with the other emcees – all of whom she’s well acquainted with: “I don’t see it as a competition; I’m just here to catch fun and dole out fun too,” she said.

The show was opened by the Hi-note band with Fabien displaying her dexterity on the sax. O’Dizzy was the compere of the night; the “unique” (his own word to describe his height) Hip TV presenter had his voice always clear on the mic at all intervals. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the performing artists. The audio quality could be better.

The first act of the evening was by ‘Them Choc Boys’ – Loopy ‘Ice’ Prince, laced up by the young producer Jesse Jagz, was awesome in his delivery and “swaggerlicious” performances.

Coming after was the Knighthouse produced teen hip hop princess Mo’Cheddah in her all black leather leggings and shining belts. She gave an eclectic, sexy performance with a hip hop track and a straight afro beat track. Then along came producer Mr. Daz and lyrical femcee Blaise, dressed in a white T shirt and black shorts layered over leggings.  Suspenders and Nike sneaks completed her look (which was remniscent of Da Brat). After her two track performance, she paved way for  soulful singer/songwriter/guitarist Bez. Although he also wasn’t very audible, the crowd connected with his strings.

The last performance was from the Dokta Frabz produced and assisted Jimmy Flames. He thrilled with his pop/hip-hop  songs – dancing was a bonus.

Afterward, fans tried to out-shout each other yelling the names of their favourite artists. The din produced results that were so close that ODizzy had no choice than to adjourn till the next episode at the Volar club (this Friday night, September 11).

Official headliner and mentor MI was absent but the talented Asa gave a ‘big sister token’ od advice and encouragement to the participants. Inspiration FM presenter Unwana and the young man Cobhams called “Chi-Chi Chilolo” also made some remarks.

The evening ended on a high note with DJ Rexon, last year’s winner, took to the wheels…

I just love this photo - Mr. Daz looks so proprietory and Blaise looks so sweet. It oddly brings to mind one word - fiduciary

…Let’s Talk About The Clothes (Oh Goody)!

If it's been said once, it's been said a million times: leggings are paired with tops that cover your crotch area! Unless of course you are a nubile leather wearing dancer a la Kaffy, The Pussy Cat Dolls, and most recently Mo'Cheddah

Noble Igwe (self-assuredly, as usual): I look good. As usual. Vixen (of Silverbird): I'm sure your dresser had good intentions but... Hair Stylist Victim: Oh no! This is normal for me. There's usually a bird perched on my head. I think the camera flashes frightened it away.

You know, I'm happy Whitney has made a comeback. I'm sure these good ladies are pleased too, hence channelling Miz Houston's Bobby Days
